Dr. Salwa Zaytoun

Orthodontist and owner

Dr. Zaytoun sees children, teens and adults, and runs the office her father opened.

She explains each stage before it starts and shows patients the scan so the plan makes sense on the screen as well as on paper. She tells patients about the soreness to expect and when to call.

Many of her patients are the children of people she has known for years, and she speaks English and Arabic.

What she does

The practice, decade by decade

A sample history for the owner to replace with the real one.

  1. 1978

Step 1: The 1970s: a first chair on State Street

Dr. Fouad Zaytoun opens a one-doctor orthodontic office with two assistants. Appointments go in a paper ledger, and every chart is written by hand.

  2. 1980s

Step 2: The 1980s: brothers, sisters and neighbors

Families book their children one after another. Parents bring the older child to the first visit and the younger one comes along to watch.

  3. 1990s

    Step 3: The 1990s: a second doctor

Dr. Salwa Zaytoun joins her father after her orthodontic residency. Impressions are still taken in putty, and clear retainers begin to replace some wire ones.

  4. 2000s

Step 4: The 2000s: the first patients return as parents

Some of the teenagers from the first years now bring their own children for a first check. The front desk learns three generations of one family at once.

  5. 2010s

Step 5: The 2010s: the practice changes hands

Dr. Salwa Zaytoun becomes the owner. A scanner replaces the putty, and the plan is shown on a screen so patients can follow it.

  6. Today

Step 6: Today: five people and the same front door

The practice is still on State Street and still a family one. Each visit starts with what happens next, and ends with it written down.
